Governor Pat Quinn Destroys 20,000 plus Jobs In Illinois with New Law

Gov Quinn Destroys 20,000 JobsGovernor Pat Quinn and the democrat party of Illinois, and the people who have voted for these idiots, have singled handedly destroyed 20,000 and more jobs for Illinoisans.

The governor, who wasn’t going to raise taxes more than 1% is acting as a tin horn dictator by killing more than 20,000 jobs of hard working Illinois residents.

Governor Quinn and the democrats of Illinois have passed a bill and Quinn signed the bill that has caused the Book Sales giant to terminate more than 20,000 Amazon Affiliates in Illinois. An Amazon affiliate is someone who builds websites and sells amazon products on their websites. Some people can make a lot of money, some make enough money to make a car payment. For some Illinois residents who are disabled, Amazon’s affiliate program gives them hope of developing an income and providing for themselves.

The fact is, these idiots who run the government of Illinois  and who have run the government of Illinois into literal bankruptcy have killed this source of income for over 20,000 residents of Illinois. The governor and is team of idiots haven’t hurt Amazon one bit, they haven’t increased their income one bit by passing this law because Amazon simply closed its affiliate program to Illinois residents.

All these morons have done is taken a big hunk of cash out of the economy of Illinois. Lets say these 20,000 make an average of $10,000 a year, which is very low. That’s 20,000 spending $200,000,000 a year in Illinois. Quinn with the stroke of a pen took $200,000,000 out of the economy. That means these Amazon affiliates won’t be buying cars from your car dealers, won’t buy boats from your boat dealerships, won’t buy clothes from your stores, won’t stop by your restaurants and on and on. That means Illinois won’t be able to collect income tax on $200,000,000 …..yep, brilliant move guys.

Governor Quinn and the democrats of Illinois have just added another 20,000 to the government teat. How many of those 20,000 will sign up for food stamps. How many will apply for some sort of government assistance. Oh, let’s not forget, the Illinois democrat party also did Obama a favor by adding to his unemployed numbers.

First Quinn targets the business community in general by raising taxes to the highest in the county. He chases out those who build businesses and hire residents of Illinois. Quinn kills jobs by the thousands. Now Governor Quinn targets a specific industry ….and let’s be clear, he really is targeting a specific company…Amazon. Is that fair? Is it morally right? How can this be legal?

These guys should take IQ tests before they’re allowed to run for office!

The democrats of Illinois, of which Quinn is one, claim they are for the people. Tell me, how can they be for the people when they are raising taxes, passing laws that chase away business, target individual businesses and business models and ultimately take away jobs from the working people of Illinois.

Governor Quinn is an immoral, unprincipled man. He lied to the citizens and voters of Illinois to get elected. He even reneged on a wager he made with the Governor of Wisconsin in the Packers vs. Bears game last year. Quinn was supposed to work at a soup kitchen if the Bears lost…..well the Bears lost and Quinn just couldn’t be bothered to pay up….. you see, he was too busy conjuring up plans to screw the fine citizens of Illinois.

Governor Quinn….. you are a liar, a failure as governor and an embarrassment to the people of Illinois! Thank you for taking my job from me!

The folks at Affiliate Tip blog bring some clarity to this idiocy and declaration of war against Illinois Businesses

The hostile signal from Governor Quinn came by signing HB 3659 into law, which forces out-of-state retailers to collect Illinois state sales tax for Internet sales, based on the view that affiliate marketers constitute a tax nexus for the retailers.

Brian Littleton, founder and CEO of Chicago-based ShareASale, an affiliate marketing network that will see a huge negative impact from this legislation, had this to say…

“Let us remember that the reason the bill was written was to collect revenue for the State of Illinois. This bill does the opposite.

Because out-of-state retailers – and we are not talking about just Amazon – but any and all retailers can simply terminate their affiliate programs in Illinois, thus removing themselves from this bill’s grasp, no revenue will be collected. That means no revenue, lost contracts for Illinois businesses, lost jobs in Illinois.

It is entirely unfortunate that the Federal government has not acted on this issue as everyone on all sides of this issue knows that it is truly a problem that only the Federal government can solve. Unfortunately, Governor Quinn jumped the gun on this. Despite the fact that we’ve been in communication with Senator Durbin’s office, who indicated that this exact issue would be considered during this session – the Governor’s early action will make that all moot as the damage will already have been done in Illinois.

As we speak, Illinois affiliate marketers are being forced to pack up their businesses and move to another state. Through a bill, which started with a lack of understanding, and finished with poor judgment – Governor Quinn has spoken unequivocally that the growing, innovative, job-creating industry known as affiliate marketing is entirely unwelcome in Illinois. Where we were once poised to become the “Silicon Valley” of the Midwest, we are now forced to look to other states. We have confirmed that neighboring state Governors and Lt. Governors have been in direct contact in an attempt to woo affiliate marketers to their borders.

Governor Quinn has instead decided to side with big-box retailers – those who destroyed main street in the first place – in an issue of “fairness”. This bill helps Walmart, Target, K-Mart etc… this bill does not help Ma and Pa booksellers who were simply being used by the big-box retailers to put a better face on the issue. When this bill becomes a law in July of 2011… there will be no increased revenue for Ma and Pa on Main St.; there will be no more people shopping on Main St. as opposed to online; and there will be no more a fair level playing field for Ma and Pa than there was prior to this bill. Unfortunately, the big-box retailers have fooled Ma and Pa into thinking that they are on the same side – when, in fact, they never will be.

The irony is that during his last budget address, the ink still not dry, Governor Quinn setup a Technology Council designed to foster growth in the growing Tech community of Illinois. Unfortunately, the very first thing he did was pass a bill that a) isn’t fair, b) doesn’t create any revenue for Illinois, and c) kills job growth in an industry that he wished to grow.

Here are two critical things that have to happen now.

  1. The State of Illinois Dept. of Revenue MUST setup a mechanism to track new revenue coming in from this bill on July 1st. If the Dept. of Revenue fails to do this, it will be an irresponsible lack of action – piling on to the already devastating loss of jobs in Illinois.
  2. The Federal government, specifically in Illinois the office of Senator Dick Durbin must take great care in looking at this issue – as there is still time before July 1st where he can save the State of Illinois from the unfortunate actions of the Governor.

Fairness? What is fair about eliminating a whole bunch of jobs in Illinois.

Here’s how this goes:

  • The bill passes.
  • Amazon terminates affiliates.
  • Other merchants do the same.
  • Affiliate-powered businesses large and small are decimated.

No revenue is collected, Ma and Pa are still being hammered by big-box retailers, and nobody benefits.

Tell me. How is that fair?

Marketing Strategies Question

James asks… What is the difference between the marketing strategies in the US vs. Europe? I have a paper to write on the differences between marketing strategies that a media network would use to market a new TV show in Europe and in the US. Any ideas? scottparat answers: The strategies are the same worldwide […]

Spinning Tops Movie Question

Laura asks… In the movie inception. Please answer if you have watched it? It was a beautiful movie. But here is my question. At the end of the movie the top keeps spinning and soon it almost seems as if it is going to fall. But the camera goes off before we see what happens. […]

  1. As a Illinois resident I know Quinn is clueless. But I blame the voters of Illinois who voted for the idiot. Who did not see this coming is just plain dumb.

  2. Yep…. you’re right John, its the voters. Unfortunately for the good folks of Illinois we are being controlled and basically run out of the state because such a small geographical area in relation to the entire state, runs the state…. at least politically. I’m talking about the folks the have the entitlement mindset. They want their food stamps, medicaid and every entitlement program they can get their hands on and these programs are promised by democrats. As long as so many folks are on welfare there won’t be any change in the way Illinois is run.

Since Quinn became governor Illinois has been last in anything that’s good and first in everything that’s bad. Businesses are constantly leaving the state and why shouldn’t they, Illinois is the most expensive state in the US to run a business. Chicago and Illinois is a sanctuary city and state …. there are so many Illegals here I get sick when I see the entire demographic of my area change. I’m not predjudice against anyone, but when I pay 10,000 a year in property taxes and my local school system has to change the way they teach because the students don’t or can’t speak English I want to puke.

Yet this is the kind of stuff Quinn and the dems promote because it is now their voting base.

They raise taxes on everybody for everything. Yet when they want to keep a big manufacturer in the state what does Quinn do? He gives corporate tax breaks! Duh!!! What would happen if you gave every business a tax break, maybe they would stay in the state…. maybe they would expand their business, I can’t understand how they just don’t get that concept.

All I wanted was to try and build an online business selling stuff as an Amazon affiliate. Now due to Quinn’s unsatisfied taxing perversions my opportunity as an Amazon affiliate is taken away.

Remember, Illinois has been run by democrats for years, they’ve run Illinois into the ground and now we have a debt that is highest amongst the 50 states. Stay in Illinois and if you have a job and own property you will be taxed for breathing!

I love where I live, I really enjoy Illinois but I won’t be able to afford to live here much longer. Almost everyone I talk to feels the same way. I wonder what happens to the state when the tax base leaves?

The question is where to go??? maybe Texas :)
