Website Graphics Creator Question

Sharon asks…

Is it legal to put advertising on a fanfiction website?

I’d thought that it was not, but I just noticed that has ads. However, most other similar sites do not. What is the law regarding ads on this kind of site? Why can display them?

btw: fan fiction is “stories about characters or settings written by fans of the original work, rather than by the original creator” (Wikipedia). Like, if I write a story placed in the Harry Potter world using J.K. Rowling’s characters, that’s fan fiction.

scottparat answers:

There are no laws about what sites can have advertising and what sites cannot. It’s completely up to the owner of the site to decide. It does slow the site down a little since it’s more graphics that need to load, but most sites use the advertising as a source of revenue so they can keep the site going.

Web sites do require maintenance. New content (other than what the users post) need to be developed. The site needs to be hosted on a server. The domain needs to be renewed every year or two. And they need email boxes to communicate with the users of the site. All this costs money. A lot of people don’t want to just put it out there for free, and eat the cost. Many of them can’t afford to. So they use advertising to generate the money needed to support the site.

Ken asks…

How do I download Custom Content for The Sims 2?

I can’t find anything on the Sims 2 website.

Where abouts is the custom content?

scottparat answers:

Here is a bunch of sites where you can find custom content. Some are paysites, but stick to the free stuff.

And here is the tutorial I read to learn how to download custom content:

Objective – Make it specific. If you’re applying for a job, make your objective getting that job, not some vague position.

Previous employment – Again, be specific. Was your closing ratio 37%, or was it higher? Did your occupancy increase during your employment? If anything improved, write it.

Education – Any awards while in high school? Any further training after high school? Surely you had some certification to become a Leasing Specialist.

Skills – Give examples of your strong work ethic, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines.

Also, go through and check punctuation, capitalization, etc. I noticed a few mistakes.

Best Internet Marketing Course Question

Thomas asks…

**WHICH computer is best?

We are in the market for a new desktop computer (don’t want a laptop) and wondered what a good brand would be. We’ve had a DELL for the past 5 years which has been very satisfactory. But I wondered what some of the other brands are out there that give good service. We don’t need “bells and whistles”; just a basic computer for e-mails, Internet and, of course ANSWERS fun and frolics.

Any ideas, gang?

Thanks for the input.

scottparat answers:

For something that’s just basic internet surfing, then you don’t need a high end computer.

Really, anything would fit that and as for the company, I would stay with Dell as you have had good history with them.

P.S. If your not going to use it often, I would probably stick with a Windows computer, as your used to it…

John asks…

I am a guy and I hate girls / women so much & I love them so much too. Could you please help me?

I agree with you that you just saw the weirdest question you might have ever seen so far. But……..

(Steve Chandler, in his self – help book “Reinventing yourself” says about an incident in which he scolded a woman very harshly. Later, when he became calm, he understood that if it was a man who did the same thing as done by that woman (which irritated Steve), he would have simply joked with him about the situation, instead of being so angry. So he arranged a group meeting in which there were many women and he seeked their help to resolve this double standards adopted by him and that meeting helped him to tackle this issue.)

Now, I am doing the same thing here. I have a very serious problem (ummm not really) with girls (women). Let me repeat, I hate them so much, but, at the same time I love them so much too. Let me explain, in my life, always, I can get along with most of the boys/men very easily. Normally, I don’t quarrel with any guy. But, with girls, I don’t do anything else. ;-)

But, on the other hand, I had very deep relationships (Minus sex and in love) with girls only. Never with boys. My relationship with boys has been always in the mid-way- stage – not high or low. (And yes, I am perfectly straight in my sexual orientation, not impotent, gay or bisexual etc.)

I am still a virgin and for the last 1 or 2 years, I purposefully did not date any girl. I don’t have any intention to marry in my life (my mother is torturing me for the same though). Now, I am an internet marketer and I am going to build and run a dating site intended to improve the dating success skills of guys, very soon.

So, I have to become an expert in the field of dating skills. I am good at it. But, of course, being an expert for the sake of my career (Internet Marketing) is another thing. So, I have already started my research yesterday.

But, only theory will not do. As I told you, I did not date for the last 1 or 2 years, one reason being that I cannot stand the character of many girls. But, when I study new dating strategies so as to teach other guys later through my site, I have to first test each technique / strategy to check whether it works or not.

Or in other words, for the sake of my career, I have to check the workability of various dating techniques with of course, gorgeous girls. (Well, they say they that we can teach only what we preach. Right. ;-)

So, do I like to flirt with gorgeous girls or not? Yes But No. Why No? I easily become irritated by the various remarks made by girls/ women I have to deal with, whether I am dating them or not.

A few months earlier, I had a short stint as an MBA student. Do you know the opinion of at least some of the girls there about me? “Arrogant, Self-Centred, Introvert etc.” I don’t know why. Perhaps, because I always purposefully neglected them. (I had a bad experience with a few girls in the beginning; so as usual, I avoided all girls in my class from then onwards)

Now, I have no other choice. The decision for starting the dating site will not be changed and I am very serious about it. So, please help me how I could be more understanding towards girls; instead of having a low opinion about many of them. That is surely essential for me to become a dating expert cum coach. Well my students couldn’t also fail. Right? ;-)

I know about the dating books provided by other Internet marketers. But, I cannot be always the affiliate of others.

So please help me by giving your valuable suggestions. I will surely vote for the best answer so that you can easily get 10 precious points.

Thanks a lot & Regards,

(Due to the fact that I did not date for the last 1 or 2 years, I checked whether my pick up lines work now also: check the link below: I used similar pick up lines earlier which worked then too. So, the actual question (in disguise) here was that if I want, can I get the attention of girls? Yes, I got attention of 11 people within 5 minutes. ;-)

But, the interesting part is that some of them believed all those. Each sentence in that article was made up, for the sake of entertaining others and checking the effectiveness of my dating skills after 2 years. ;-) Well you may get the 10 points there also. I am waiting for the voting part.;_ylt=ArnCw4mdwao6U6raIrLi09nty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20110326175431AAwCjU6

(Do you think that my book “My 10,000 Dating Blunders” will be successful?) )

No answer so far in 15 minutes. I should have summarised it all into 3 or 4 sentences :-)

scottparat answers:

Hi Sreejish, my lovely buddy :)
I think you’re afraid of getting into a relationship with a woman is because maybe you don’t understand them. :P Go for real women! :D Girls don’t have to be gorgeous, keep in mind. Lol.
:) Think about what you just answer in my question. I learned a lot, thanks :) Now i’m telling you back :)

Blogger Themes For WordPress Question

Joseph asks…

What is a good blogging site I could use?

I want to start a blog and I have used sites like WordPress and Blogger but they just annoy me. What are other good blogging sites I could use?

scottparat answers:

What kind of blog are you trying to start? If you’re starting a personal blog, free services from or is good enough. If you are not happy with them, you probably won’t be happy with other services too, since WordPress and Blogger are the two most widely used platform.

If you are wanting to build a professional blog, I suggest getting a web host and install WordPress on it. Self-hosted WordPress offers much more flexibility and will take your blog further with its huge collection of plugins and themes.

Charles asks…

What is more popular as a blog: Blogger or WordPress?

Also, I want my blog to look more like a website with pages.

scottparat answers:

It depend what kind of wordpress do you want to use, or self hosted script

Blogspot: You can edit template layouts, styles and colors, or install a third party theme. No template editing. Style sheet editing is only available as a paid upgrade. Public Domain Christmas Songs Question

Donna asks…

where can i get the notes for…?

where can i get the notes for the clarinet. FOR FREE!!! printable?? like christmas songs or disney songs especially!!! plz send me the link or just write down where!!! thnx!!!

scottparat answers:

Most modern music is copyrighted, but older stuff is usually in the public domain. You should be able to get a lot of traditional Christmas songs as sheet music.

These websites have free sheet music:

George asks…

Anyone know well known christmas carols that aren’t copyrighted? And how do you tell they’re not copyrighted?

scottparat answers:

Most of the Christmas carols you know and love are public domain. Anything that says “traditional” or found in hymnals is usually okay. Check the date is was published. (Or better yet, find out if the author is living or dead. If dead, then 70 later the work will be public domain (unless renewed)).

“How can I tell if a work is still protected by copyright?

Works created after January 1, 1978 will be protected for the life of the composer (author) plus 70 years. Copyrights in effect on that date, if renewed, will continue for 75 years from the date copyright was originally secured. Those works in their initial 28-year period of copyright on January 1, 1978 can be renewed for an additional 47 years, while the copyright of works in their renewal term on that date were automatically extended for an additional 19 years.”

I do assume that you mean christmas carols like “Deck the Hall”, and not christmas songs like “Rudolph.”

Here’s a safe list:

Angels from the Realms of Glory
Angels We Have Heard on High
Away in a Manger
Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella
Coventry Carol
Deck the Hall
Ding Dong Merrily on High
First Noel, The
God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
Good King Wenceslas
Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Here We Come A-Wassailing
Holly and the Ivy, The
I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In
In the Bleak Midwinter
Infant Holy, Infant Lowly
It Came Upon the Midnight Clear
Joy to the World
Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming
O Come All Ye Faithful
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
O Little Town of Bethlehem
Silent Night
Sussex Carol
Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day
We Three
We Wish You a Merry Christmas

scottparat answers:

You don’t write what kind of job you’re looking for! Figure that out and then edit your resume to that job. You might want to compress your resume a bit, it’s probably too long.

Unless you’re an attorney, secretary is probably the best way to go in a law firm, even better than law clerk. They are paid very well and they leave at 5pm. While they are working for more attorneys now than in the past, There are also IT people, data input clerks, receptionists, HR personnel. (My dh is a partner at biglaw.)

Why do you want to work at a law firm? If you want to be an attorney, you’ll want to focus your energies into getting into the best tier law school you can. Make sure whatever job you take leaves you time for school.

Right now is not a great time to look for a law firm job, even the biglaw firms have felt the sting and have cut back on staff and attorneys. A lot of firms will hire temp clerks and attorneys to fill in if they have big cases and need more help. You might call a temp agency that specializes in law firms to see if you are qualified.

Good luck!

Charles asks…

Is this too good to be true?

I received an email from Career Builder and the person wanted me to respond to a Gmail account. I just replied asking for more info and I received this email. This time it was from a company email address. Does anyone know if this is real or a scam?

Thanks in advance!

It does not ‘smell’ right. The mix of information is wrong. If it was genuine, it would provide more facts and less bull. The range of expected duties is not plausible for the position. If they are who they say they are, why wouldn’t they give an actual address for their headquarters and specific information about their products or services. I do not believe the line about why they were using gmail. It is either untrue or it shows they can’t run a business …. Or both.

The idea that THEY tell you what hours you will work and what you will do is incompatible with the assertion that you would be “an independent contractor”.

If, as they claim, they are a limited company, then they must be registered with Companies House (the UK registry of companies). It is worth searching the register and finding out all you can about the purported sender of the email.

This smells as though it might be a pyramid scam – or ‘networked selling’ or one of the other many names by which such structures are known. They are so well known as a ‘web outsourcing provider’, they do not come up on a search engine.

Be cautious, my friend. ’nuff said!

What is a website about the gear and tools that creative professionals use?

I’m looking for a specific website where creative pros make profiles about what gear, hardware, software and tools they use in their professional lives. By creative pros, I mean writers, photographers, illustrators and graphic designers. I remember this site very vividly.

Thanks in advance, good Samaritans!

Best Internet Marketing Software Question

Donna asks…

What is the best, most updated anti-virus software on the market?

i currently run trend micro pc-Cillen internet security. it does well except when it tells me it detects a virus and catches nothing on scan. i just would like some suggestions on a different software

scottparat answers:

For good, free and recommended security programs, please go here…

I recommend AVG as an anti virus, although eTrust’s 12 month free trial is excellent (I’m using it and am extremely impressed).
If you need other programs, go for Zone Alarm firewall, AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) and SpywareBlaster.

If you click on the names in that list I gave you and it will take you to the official download site.

Please ensure that you keep them all updated for full protection and check for any updates when you first download them.

Charles asks…

Blogger Themes Like Tumblr Question

Mary asks…

Where can I download this theme?
I love it and I’ve been searching high and low for it because I’d like to use it for my own tumblr. The blogger provided a link, but it’s invalid. Does anyone know where I can find this exact theme? Thanks!

scottparat answers:

Zan is the one who made it, but he deleted his Tumblr awhile back. The only way to get the theme is to ask someone for the coding that still has that theme up!

Robert asks…

how can i add a hypster. com playlist to tumblr?

I created a playlist on but how can i get the code (if theres one to post it on tumblr?

scottparat answers:

Once you created an account, you’ll be here ( and on the right, there’s something called player skins, click that. Choose the first option (Bar widget for Tumblr/Blogger/Wordpress/Websites.
) get the code, put it in the theme code in tumblr, and you’re done :)

i used to have it, but some people really don’t like autoplay music.
