Pat Quinn Is Back Question

Ruth asks…

Do you think Romeo Crennel is already on the hot seat?

Huge loss to open the season. If Brady Quinn can’t help pull something together, what will happen to Romeo? As a Pats fan, I dream of the slim chance of him getting his old job back.

scottparat answers:

He was already on the hot seat BEFORE the season started.
It was in all the preseason press about him and the GM (Savage) being on their last leg.

After watching yesterday’s game, Crennel looked like he was just going through the motions. My guess is if they’re winless by mid-season he’ll be canned.

Jenny asks…

Why can’t Democrats do anything rights?

This wasn’t supposed to happen. Only a year ago, Governor Pat Quinn and his fellow Democrats raised individual income taxes by 67% and the corporate tax rate by 46%. They did it to raise $7 billion in revenue, as the Governor put it, to “get Illinois back on fiscal sound footing” and improve the state’s credit rating…
It’s worth contrasting this grim picture with that of Wisconsin north of the border. Last winter Madison was occupied by thousands of union protesters trying to bully legislators to defeat Republican Governor Scott Walker’s plan to require government workers to pay a larger share of their health-plan costs, and to shore up the pension system by trimming future retirement liabilities. The reforms passed anyway.
In contrast to the Illinois downgrade, Moody’s has praised Mr. Walker’s budget as “credit positive for Wisconsin,” adding that the money-saving reforms bring “the state’s finances closer to a structural budgetary balance.”

I wish the governor of Wisonsin could do the same for California. Here we have 230,000 unionized state employees with a $150 billion pension, despite a $17 billion spending deficit. And as they use their collective bargaining to give themselve pay raises year after year (prison guard union pay has gone up 45% in the last 5 years) we are suffering double digit unemployment of the private sector! It’s absolutely RIDICULOUS and Illinois is proof that we don’t all suffer from lack of revenue, but lack of responsible spending!
