If you’re a reader of my blog then you are in for a special treat.

I belong to a membership where a friend created a site dealing with Google Trends, taking the information from Google Trends and putting it in an easily digestable format. Not only that, but the information can be used to capitalize by the popular current trends. Google Trends is one of those google tools that has been laying low as far as internet marketers are concerned but now you can access this information in a very usable form.

The site trendfetch.com is now in beta and you can join…..no optin necessary, and check out the information to see if it’s useful to you. So go to http://www.trendfetch.com/beta-signup and signup for access. I don’t know how long he’ll leave the beta open so don’t waste any time…..this isn’t some stupid IM technique, he just wants some feedback.

By the way, he has a free pdf outlining how to use trendfetch.com and he says a couple of strategies that you can use to start making a few bucks from the information you get from google trends. I grabbed a keyword phrase and through up a blog in less than five minutes….guess its the number of blogs and type of content you use, but I thought it would be interesting to see what type of traffic I can get. Yes, he covers some simple strategies for driving traffic to you new sites also.

He was also asking for some thoughts on how to monetize the site and I posted the below information. Might give you a few ideas if you have a project in the works

Awesome idea, still digesting and thinking of how I could monetize the info you provide. The ideas presented in the pdf are a good start.

One comment on the pdf, you mentioned using wordpress.com and monetizing with adsense. I’m almost positive that wordpress.com does not allow adsense. However, blogger.com would be a good alternative.

Anyway, I did take action and set up a blogger blog. I was so exciting to see the keyword available for the domain I grabbed some public domain content and made my firsts post. Big dummy me……. there’s no adsense for the topic

If I were rolling in dough I wouldn’t mind paying a couple of bucks, however, I think your drop off is going to be high. Just being honest here, I really like what you’ve done and you obviously poured a ton of time into it. And…..I don’t have a lot of dough

Here’s what I would use for a marketing plan.

#1 Work on the pdf and develop it into an intense guide covering muptiple ways to use Google Trends for developing an online income. In other words, give the ebook some meat. I would then give the ebook away….inside the ebook you’d obviously be promoting trendfetch.com …..there are so many crap ebooks out there that a good one will get many signups and go viral. Also, google trends hasn’t received that much promotion….a good authority book or site would do well.

#2 Use your Trendfetch.com site to build a huge IM mailing list. If they unsubscribe they lose access to the site. In other words, turn it into a free membership site. You’d be giving real value. Make it clear upon signing up that they are agree to recieve mulitple email offers from you…..and do it!

I’ve signed up for plenty of free crap and get blasted with mail….I hate it. I bought cheap products and get blasted with offers…..I hate it, and I’m sure everyone else does. Big difference on your part though:

1. you are telling them they are going to get blasted

2. you are offering a service/site of great value

I for one wouldn’t care how many times you emailed me as long as I still could access the site…..in fact, I might even buy something In all seriousness, you’ll be in an excellent position to be an authority figure….newbies will hang on your word….I will to!

I’m just thinking out loud now.

I would consider setting up a forum where you encourage members to share stragegies, successes, BH uses and all that.

Once the forum is up and running you might want to set up a private section….maybe invitation only where members could share the really good stuff without fear of the entire internet finding out. Make them sign a disclaimer, if info is leaked they lose their testicles or related parts

Of course this private forum would be paid, 10. 20 bucks a month….

Sorry…babbling too much, but….

Some would tell you that selling your internet marketing services to local business owners is easy. The entire process, known within internet marketing circles as Offline Marketing is not always an easy method of making money online. I create offline directories so I’m always looking for people who need help or make comments about offline marketing. I ran across one such person in a forum the other day and this is what he had to say:

So first of all… I DID IT!
I opened up a company

The ‘working’ part of it is working
the making money part of it is not.

I need to find advertisers who want to promote on my site.
Today I messaged 30 local stores, none of them replied back.

Now I got phone calls + meeting them in person as my steps #2 and #3 since step #1 (email) didn’t work.

How effective is walking in there in person?
And do you think they’ll be down for a quick 10 minute meeting?

Its just … Ugh… I just want to make my first 5 stores, make some $$$ from there, and then I’ll know it’ll go a lot smoother

Well….I couldn’t help myself and was in a giving mood so I gave the guy some suggestions. It was late and I don’t know how coherent I was so you might have to read it a couple of times but my advice was sincere based on my experiences doing offline marketing….or working with local business people.

Here’s an easy way……. well one way to start getting customers…..this takes a little work, and you can do in conjunction with your existing marketing plan.

Focus on a city or town, pick out a specific market. Lets say Dentists.

Grab a domain for your city and specific market. Let’s say your in Madison and you’re gonna work with Dentists. Find a domain that would include MadisonDentists.com ……something like that.

Go to your Madison online yellow pages. Create a one page Madison Dentists Directory. Use your yellow page info to add 5, 10 or 20 dentists. Do some backlinking, bookmarking or whatever and get some traffic to your new site, try and get it on page 1 of google local.

Now there are several approaches you can take when calling or emailing Madison Dentists. (actually your approach can be anything as long as its unique) If you have your simple directory on page 1 of google I’m sure you can see how you might use this. You use it as an example of your expertise!

Option 1
You can sell them an inner page of your directory for a monthly fee or one time fee. Again, a foot in the door to sell a more complete website and services.

Option 2

If the dentist doesn’t have a website, sell him your full offline package.

Option 3

If he does have a website and its not on page one, tell him where he needs to be and offer your services.

Option 4

Lets say he’s on page one and has a hot looking site. From experience most sites are monuments to the doctors ego, they need to be reworked. Depending on your experience you could offer a consult…..leading into a monthly seo fee for you.

It almost never fails, none of these guys has an autoresponder and if they do, it isn’t on page one. Explain the benefits of an autoresponder….and sell sell sell!

I’ll give you one more use for the little directory you just built.

Sell it! Sell it to the top bidder!

If you were able to get your little directory on page 1, go down your lists of dentists, in this case, ask them if they would like to own the site. Give them the stats….ie, 500 visist a month etc. ……. I know one guy who does this and sells some of them for 1000’s and then charges the purchaser for any website changes or maintenance

The key is to use the little one page directory as a foot in the door approach. More and more directories are coming online every day, the more unique you make yours the better for you. I’ve set up these directories with maybe 10 listings and then create maybe 2 inner pages for 2 dentists so I can use as an example. I’ll even add an autoresonder to the site and give something free if it applies to the particular market……that really helps to create interest.

For one town close to me I created a custom directory for the entire town. I grabbed about 10 local businesses and gave them a position on the first page and inner pages. Drove some traffic and these businesses were getting calls and leads….they loved it and made great references for me to work the rest of the town.

You really are limited to your imagination when working with local businesses.

Here’s the bottom line. You need to be confident in your ability to create an online presence for your offline customers the will result in them making money. Most of these folks are really hurting….on the verge of giving up and you just might have what they need to be successful.

There’s a saying that goes something like this: “Help enough other people get what they want and you”ll get everything your want and more!” I heard that from Zig Zigglar and if you truly make that your motto….sooner or latter things will start to go your way.

Don’t give up.

Remember we are in the toughest economy in our lifetime and probably our parents…..I’m 56.

Remember also, offline marketing is some sort of magic technique where people come running your way giving stacks of cash or as some say “offline gold”…..that’s pure crap, at least that’s been my experience.

My sons gets emails and phone calls almost on a daily basis with someone trying to show them how to do their website better, get them more business, rank for more terms…you name it.

That’s your competition.

The directory approach isn’t for everyone, however, you’ve already taken action. All this takes is 10 bucks and some hosting which you probably already have. Hope you give it a shot and let me know how it goes!

Many webmasters know the importance of having backlinks to their sites. Many go about the tedious job of obtaining backlinks by themselves which takes time and patience. In the past, it seemed that only big corporations could shell out the cash necessary to actually purchase backlinks. So they were the ones who ended up first in the search engine rankings. But things have changed and there are many services now available to the small business owner.

While these types of service aren’t cheap (especially if they are reputable), they can be very worthwhile. In deciding whether you want to buy your backlinks or continue to do the backlink building yourself, you need to evaluate how important your time is to you and how much you are able to spend in order to free up some of that time. More backlinks will raise your search engine ranking only if the links are quality (relevant) links. If the links come from link farms or just poorly ranked, non-reputable sites, then it can actually hurt you in terms of your search engine ranking. So keep that in mind when you are checking out services that sell backlinks. Do your research on where the links are coming from and make sure that you have something that can allow you to track the results yourself.

The decision to purchase backlinks can bring you a sigh of relief. It’s definitely the easiest way to shoot your site up in search engine ranking. But remember, quality links are not cheap. You don’t need to go for the most expensive ones necessarily but try to avoid just getting the most links you can get for the cheapest price. Again, research exactly what you will be getting for your investment. Make sure that your links will not all originate from the same place. This is a big no-no according to the search engines. Also avoid publicly traded link sites. These are more likely to be tracked and flagged by the search engines. Also, do not pay a monthly membership to maintain your links.

You are better off paying a one-time (possibly higher) fee for one link than to continuously pay month after month and risk losing your position when you don’t pay one month for some reason or another. You’re much better off buying permanent links. That’s fine if you can only afford one at a time. Just add a link every so often and your site will gradually increase in ranking until you can afford to pay for more.

The decision to purchase backlinks is a sound one if you do it the right way, according to the rules established by the search engines themselves. Just make sure you do your research on who is selling them to you.

As a small business owner and internet marketer I find the subject of small businesses and internet marketing fascinating. I’ve developed a few offline directories and help a handfull of small business owners get online. Today the issue of small businesses and social media is starting to spark some interest. The question is, can social media or social marketing be used effectively by offline small business owners. As internet marketers we’ve been using social media in a variety of ways for the last 3 or 4 years, we can easily use what we know to help the local guy grow his business and we just might be able to make a few bucks in the process.

The University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business looked at the relationship between social media and small businesses and found that the technology adoption rates in the U.S. have doubled in the past year from 12% to 24%.

The data comes straight from the university’s third installment to its Small Business Success Index report and is based on a December 2009 telephone survey of 500 small business owners.
