It might seem like rocket science, but once you take a hard look, writing your own wordpress plugins can be a piece of cake!

I’ve been reading, watching and studying Robert Plank’s new package called WordpressCrusher. I wanted to build wordpress plugins and just couldn’t get a handle on the coding. I was willing to learn the php but nobody had anything that taught me how to do the basic programming. WordpressCrusher has an awesome collection of templates you can use to build plugins with…..literally 100’s of plugins.

I love learning new stuff, especially when it can increase my efficency and income at the same time. Plank teaches with precision….. using screen capture video, seperate pages with coding so you don’t have to copy and paste along with a details pdf guide that is printable.

If you use wordpress, you undoubedly have use a handful of plugins…maybe more. Building a wordpress plugin and marketing that plugin could be your ticket to big money.

If you build a plugin with the information and templates you get with Wordpress Crusher you not only make life easier for yourself, you have a marketable entity.

You could sell your new plugin, or you could give it away. Sell your new wordpress plugin and make some money or give it away and build your list. You could even offer it no the warrior forums special forum called the Warrior Special Offer forum (WSO). Hungry marketers are always looking for WSO’s, especially cheap ones.

My head is spinning….so many possibilities when you build your own wordpress plugins. Wordpress Crusher now gives you the tools you can use to create a product that is unique. Think about it, everyone and their brother are writing ebooks or small reports. How many plugins do you see?

I found a video that will give you an idea of the basics involved when building a plugin. This shows the very basics, Wordpress Crusher goes into great detail….. you owe it to yourself to check this one out!

How to Install Your WordPress Theme

Installing a WordPress theme is easy to do and can be done many times through the life of your blog. It is also fun to do and can be addicting. The best part about it is that many of the themes you can use are free so you can change the look of your site as often as you want to try and find that perfect look for your blog.

There are many places that you can go to download a theme for free. You can look for them usually in a few different formats. There are three major types of themes available to you to get your free blog looking like a professionally designed website or weblog. They can be found in basic themes, advanced themes, and widget-friendly themes.

Basic themes are the standard types of themes. They are the easiest to use and great for those new to web design. The templates are all very attractive and although you might be a bit limited as to what you can do. You will still find it easy to get it looking as sharp as you want.

How to Install Your WordPress Theme

Advanced themes are a bit more difficult to figure out for the new person but it is a great second step in learning about how to use website templates. Website design is made easy when you learn more about this type of theme. You have more options but it can be a bit complicated to figure them out.

The widget-friendly themes are ones that enable you to make use of the various WordPress widgets made available to you that can help your new knowledge of website design be taken to a new level. WordPress widgets are things that you can put into your weblogs sidebar to make your website more interactive for those visiting your blog. The great thing about them is that you don’t really have to know much of anything about how they work. All you do is plug the thing in to your free blog and let it go. You will be surprised to find out how much more attractive your page can be once you learn how to install this into your WordPress theme.

After you have gone to one of the free WordPress theme sites and selected the one you want just follow the instructions on the page to download it. Once it is downloaded to your computer you can extract the theme and then upload the directory and all the other files to your wp-content/themes folder. Once you have uploaded it you can hit the presentations button to see a preview. On that preview, after you have seen that it looks just like you hoped it would, hit the image to activate.

Play around with the admin area. Once you have done this you will find more easy ways to customize your very own website and will learn how to build more complicated websites. It may seem difficult to build a web presence for yourself but once you learn how to install your WordPress theme you will find it a much easier endeavor.

Custom Blogger Themes

Did you know that you can add custom themes to for your Blogger Blog?

Yes, you aren’t limited to the 6 or so standard blogger templates, you can add a custom blogger template and create a really nice looking blog.

You ask: “Where can I find these custom blogs?”

Just do a google search for “blogger templates” and google will turn up 100’s of results. Add “free” to your search query and you’ll have the best kind of blogger templates :)

Here’s one I’m looking at:

http://adstheme.blogspot.com/

It’s a nice looking blog, looks like it has some good seo design to it and it won’t look like the typical blogger blog template. Church Revolution for Blogger is one of the best looking custom wordpress themes that was converted into a blogger theme. It’s even easier to use as a blogger template or theme.

When using a custom blogger template it’s very useful if you know some html coding, since you’ll be able to add and change the raw html coding for the template. With some templates it isn’t necessary…..others, you will need to make edits.

Premium Blog TemplatesI need to add my caveat reagarding blogger blogs. That is, you are not in ultimate control of your blogger blog. Google owns blogger and if for some reason they decide they don’t like your blog it could be deleted in a nanosecond without any input from you. You’ll never get it or it’s content back, it will be gone for good. Trust me, it happened to me.

So, use blogger blogs if you have absolutely no money. Use them for temporary functions and use them if you can consider the blog a throw away blog…….blogger is perfect for these uses.

Good luck :)

Robert Plank can be considered king of the hill when it comes to php programming and internet marketing! I don’t say that lightly, simply because I’ve become very cynical with the whole guru thing…..and I wouldn’t want Plank to get a bigger head than he already has :)

Starting Computer Support Business

I was doing some research on computer repair business and ran across a forum post from a young man, 18 years old, interested in starting his own computer support business.

I was kind of surprised that so many of the people who responded made a big deal about this kid’s age. I think that’s crazy!

Take a look at his question:

Hi, I’m 18 and graduated from high school about a month ago. I’m interested in starting up my own computer support and consulting business. I’m fairly knowledgeable about different computer topics and think that I can provide support for primarily small businesses and maybe some private citizens. However, there are a lot of questions I have about starting a small computer support business that I’m not finding answered in the usual “how to start a small business” books and sites. So I thought that maybe some of the people here who have maybe been doing this thing themselves for a while could help me out.

So in no particular order here are some questions I have:

* I’m located in Asheville, NC which is in the south. For the south what are some reasonable price ranges for work that I charge for the hour by? I’m thinking 25 – 40 or 45 USD a hour seems like a reasonable amount.
* I know a lot of businesses have computer problems they need fixed ‘Right Now!”, and for which I could be on call. I’m wondering what kind of retainer fee, or what kind of pricing system would work for something like being on call.
* For work contracts, what is a good way to word them? I’ve been trying to write up contracts, but I’m pretty lost. Can anyone suggest some sites or sources or tips for how to write contracts for technical work?
* Does it make sense to get any certifications if I’m working for myself? I know they help in getting a job, but likely none of my clients will understand any certification I show them.
* How do you deal with support afterwards? When whatever I did for them messes up? Should I have it already in my contract that they will need to pay for future work? How much of a “warranty” makes sense?
* For hardware does it make more sense to refer them to a vendor to purchase or just put it down as expenses? Since I’m going to be buying hardware in small quantities does it make sense to stick with a good retailer like NewEgg.com or try and get cheaper prices from a wholesaler or the like?
* Are there any “unions” or the like for IT professionals working on their own? Or other organizations that could be of use to me that I could learn from?
* I’ve been trying to think of a list of what issues and software that businesses most commonly deal with. One of my biggest fears is that most of my experience has been with troubleshooting and working with either personal computers or with servers. Any suggestions on what kind of work I will most commonly be doing for small businesses? I assume problems with like Windows and Office Word/Exchange/Excel seem obvious, but besides that any other suggestions?
* Are there any books out there about starting computer support business? I’ve been reading some books on small business, but none that really specifically address the tech industry.

If you want to start your own computer support business and you have a good working knowledge of computers…then it doesn’t matter one bit whether 16 or 80 :)

Knowledge will equate to confidence and as you present yourself, telling the customer what the potential problem can be….well….if you know your stuff, it will show in the way you handle yourself.

Understand this…the market exists for computer support and repair business. As a one man operation, you can keep your overhead really low and make a great income. It can be a full time income or part time income…you decide by the amount of time you work.

More people have problems with their computer than you can even begin to imagine. You can market businesses, government agencies, schools and individuals. Some stores have small bulletin boards…stick your business card up and make sure your phone number and email are bold and obvious. Don’t forget to have a website up and operating, even if you just have an index page and contact page……it will build credibility in the eyes of your customers or anyone looking to hire you for some basic computer repair.

You could specialize. Maybe you know how to fix a virus, spyware or malware. It might sound simple to you now, but many, many computer users are clueless when it comes to a virus or spyware infection. You can make home or office visits, clean a computer of all spyware or maleware for a set fee. Make it anything you want because I can almost guarantee that you won’t have any competition from any other computer repair business.

If you want to learn a little more about how to repair your computer consider reading this book, Do it Yourself Computer Repair and Computer Secrets Unleashed!

How to Handle Refunds!

I asked the below question on the warrior forum a couple of days ago. There were some interesting comments. I have no problem refunding a purchase if the customer thinks the product is of poor quality or even it wasn’t what they expected….for any reason. My problem comes from the person who purchases with the intent of refunding and does so……they are in essence stealing. Anyway, check out the Refund thread in the warrior forum.

I know there have been many discussions on customers purchasing and then immediately asking for a refund…..which is simply a blatant attempt to rip the seller off.

I know there’s not much anyone can do when using clickbank and the serial refund requester must be refunded without recourse.

But what about Paypal?

Some guy purchased a product from me, downloaded and requested a refund all within 5 minutes according to the timestamps on my emails. And in about another hour I got a refund claim from paypal!

Is paypal any better than clickbank at protecting the merchant?

I know I probably should just refund this guy, but its the principle of it. The guy didn’t even have time to unzip the package before he asked for a refund ….and the jerk really pisses me off!

Will paypal support me if I contest this refund request?

Or will paypal blackmark me for getting the refund request and could I be in danger of losing my paypal account?

I really hate being held up like this :(

Let me know what I should do….Please!

Thanks,

Scott
