But…. I went that route about 6 years ago. I built a list of around 5000 double optin. It was a good list and made me money. It was a self hosted script on my domain. First think I noticed was my delivery rate started going down.  Finally, delivery was anywhere from 40% to 60% …I was told because I was on a shared hosting account.

Here’s the worse part. My hosting account contacted me and told me they were going to be moving my account to another server. They made backups but my account really wouldn’t be down at all.

4 days latter it was confirmed. My entire site was wiped out. the backup was corrupted and I was the only one that lost everything. I had some backups but I didn’t have a backup of my autoresponder database so I lost my first profitable list…. I never did rebuild that list.

So…… if you want an autoresponder to build a list and make money with it….. invest in a solid reliable service like aweber. Otherwise I can almost guarantee you’ll be wasting your time. Trying to transfer a built up list to someplace like Aweber ends up in about a 50% drop in subscribers…… either way you are screwed so fork over the cash and start out the right way.
