Hopefully I can save someone some heartache and frustration …or just plain being pissed off with this review of Acronis True Image 2016.

Let me tell you how I started.

I’ve been using Acronis for 5 years or more, not really sure but I was always able to figure my way around. I liked the fact that you could clone an entire disk and write that to a new drive. I’ve done it multiple times with multiple versions. It can do a standard backup, you can retrieve individual files…. in fact there is so much you can do with Acronis of old and Acronis 2016 that you’ll never get to it unless you are a complete geek!

So…. my computer crashes a couple of times and I check on my backups. I’m backing up to a 3TB external desktop usb drive. It had been working fine…..of course until now. The drive is dead, I go online and find every kind of maniac suggesting you beat it with a hammer to freeze it in the freezer, rip it apart and replace the board… guarantees of course. Seagate just tells me it is out of warranty. Why in the hell do we buy stuff that we know we are going to need for the life of a computer when the stuff we buy is only going to last a year or maybe 2 years. Seagate is another story and review, I will give it my all.

Review of Acronis true image 2016As I continue with my Review of Acronis True Image 2016 let me say that  I was using Acronis 13, I decided to upgrade to Acronis True Image 2016….the latest and greatest. I also bit my tongue and ordered 2 (5TB) Seagate external drives, they were in the middle of the road as far as cost goes and Amazon prime got them here in 2 days. Amazon Prime is the best if you order anything online, you should check it out, no extra cost if the vendor is a prime vendor and you get your order in 2 days….. even on Sundays!

Besides, I was kinda freaking out. I had 3 bluescreen incidents in as many weeks. I was afraid I was going to lose everything and I needed fresh backups!

After reading the salesletter and garbage about how great Acronis True Image 2016 was I decided to get 5 installations. This included 2 years of offline storage for all five computers. I thought that was great, in fact I got Acronis…..installed it and started my first online backup. After a couple of hours I got a message that it was going to take 30+ days to complete the upload of 1.6TB. I have a fairly fast upload speed, 12mbs, its from comcast cable ….and I was upset. If I would have know it was going to take a month to upload my drive I would have looked harder at other options.

Even though this is a Review of Acronis True Image 2016, I need to continue with my thought process on how to backup my computer and what software I should use. So…..I immediately ordered a couple of seagate 5TB backup drives. Thanks to amazon they got here today, Sunday.

Now I can make a complete backup and firgure out how I want to maintaine that backup, incremental, differential, archival…..or do a complete clone. All I have to do is hope and pray that this Seagate drive doesn’t puke.

Backing up has got to be the biggest pain in the ass there is. I hope in the future they will incorporate WORKABLE backup and restore systems for our computers locally and online.

I’m still going to go through with the online backup from Acronis True Image 2016, even though it takes 30 days, unfortunately I’m not sure if there is a way to test the online backup, in other words is it viable. The last thing you want to do is think you have a backup online or offline and find out it is corrupted. So far, I have not had any luck with Acronis support.

To be fair, I got it, that is Review of Acronis True Image 2016,  just before Thanksgiving Weekend.

But when you click on support, my browser froze up. I tried for 3 hours. Finally I get 3 options, forum, chat or email. They suggest Chat. So I fill in about 2 pages of questions and click submit….. nothing, the page freezes. I figured I did something wrong and tried again. You know, thats all I want to do with my time is fill in blanks on some web form…..anyway, the chat froze up again and I never got any response from Aronis’s chat….. I was very pissed off at this point.

I sent an email with my problems and complaints….. but it was Friday and I suppose I might get an answer before Christmas, not sure though. If you go online and google Acronis support you will find so many negative reviews I’m surprised they are still in business.

Finally I tried the Acronis forum.

Stated my problem and complaints, looking for solutions. There were none to be had, someone just answered and said it takes a long time to upload your disk to Acronis Online Storage. Sure, but 30 days!

I had a couple of other problems and questions regarding the cloning feature in Acronis True Image 2016, the help instructions are kind of vague and I wanted to clarify a few things. So I started a new post in their forum.

My post got flagged as spam…. can you believe that. I took the time to write a thoughtful and respectful question. No attachements, no links and when I clicked on the post button it told me I was a spammer and I could respond to one of the moderations……. I said FU moderation, I waste my time writing comments, and questions and you call me a spammer!

These guys suck at support, they do not provide any. I think there is a provision where you can purchase or pay for phone time. I wouldn’t waste my time….. just don’t buy it and if you have a version that is working, keep it.

The whole reason for buying Acronis True Image 2016 was because it played nice with Windows 10, in fact they called it windows 10 certified, but it you check out their forum I quickly found 4 posts that indicated big problems with windows 10.

Unless you are a technogeek and have the patients of a saint, do not purchase Acronis True Image 10…..

In fact, if you have something that works for you please let me know.

I did a backup to my new local external hard drive and it took about 24 hours, that is backing up 1.6 or so TB’s of data.

I’m still not sure how the cloning works with this new version. I was able to restore some drives with a clone way back in 2013 using Acronis but they seem to have changed the process.
